Despite some media reports saying the Zippin Pippin roller-coaster could attract teens looking for trouble, city leaders stand behind Bay Beach Amusement Parks new addition, saying the parks character wont change.

The roller-coaster opening Saturday is the brand-new deal at Bay Beach in Green Bay.

The way its set up and everything, its going to be just a fantastic ride, and I think all the families of all ages are really just going to love it, Alderman Jerry Wiezbiskie said.

Days away from opening to the public, city leaders dont seem worried that the ride will impact the amusement parks wholesome personality.

According to Mayor Jim Schmitt, the Zippin Pippin addition wont change Bay Beachs family-fun character. He says it will attract teens but not trouble.

Ive been on this roller-coaster with my three teenagers, and Im not sure we would have gone to Bay Beach had the roller-coaster not been there. And theres a lot of families that are going to re-look Bay Beach and say look, lets get back and they have this new family ride there, the mayor said.

But what about Teen Night at Bay Beach, a free event for kids that crumbled years ago because of fights and arrests?

Thats a police issue if it comes about, but you have these issues even in our parks. We have 70-some parks in the City of Green Bay, and we could have the same issues in almost every single one of those parks, Wiezbiskie said.

Bf theres people that are problems, whether its east side, west side, Bay Beach, any park, were going to ask them to leave, Mayor Schmitt said.

Even with a new attraction, the mayor says the focus for the park stays the same — family and affordability, like its always been.

Were sure hopeful that Bay Beach attracts good families like its been doing the last hundred years, the mayor said.

The Japanese government has revealed it had to learn key developments about the crisis at the Fukushima nuclear plant through media reports.

The news highlights tensions between the plants operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co, and the Japanese government.

Speaking at a news conference today, Japans chief cabinet secretary said he was unaware that the cooling system at the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant had been shut down manually.

Yukio Edano says he learnt about the development in todays media reports.

He says he will seek an explanation from TEPCO about how and why the manual shutdown went ahead.

Meanwhile, the United States is maintaining its advice for its citizens to keep at least 80 kilometres away from the Fukushima nuclear plant.

But the US state department says it is now safe for US nationals to use the bullet train and motorway to transit through the area near the facility.

The Australian Government is also advising citizens not to travel to the Fukushima prefecture or to within 80 kilometres of the plant.

TEPCO had previously confirmed a meltdown occurred in reactor No. 1, with fears of similar meltdowns in reactors No. 2 and 3.

Chrysler not speeding plans for new cars, despite investor concerns

Alisa Priddle/ The Detroit News

Dearborn Chrysler Group LLC does not intend to speed up plans for new cars despite media reports that investors see a high degree of risk in an automaker that has been so dependent on truck sales.

Chrysler will stick to the timetable laid out in November 2009 as part of its five-year business plan, Ralph Gilles, senior vice president in charge of design and the Dodge brand, said this morning at the Wards Auto Interiors Conference here.

Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne and Chief Financial Officer Richard Palmer have been meeting with investors across the country to refinance debt to repay its high interest government loans. They want to raise billions of dollars in loans and establish a revolving line of credit to repay the $7.5 billion to the governments of the United States and Canada by June. A further $1.27 billion will come from Fiat SpA, which is buying an additional 16 percent stake in Chrysler to raise its holdings to 46 percent now and 51 percent by year end.

A former monk in training at St. Benedicts Monastery in Old Snowmass made his first court appearance Monday to face a charge connected to an alleged sexual assault on a boy in the early 2000s.

Senior Judge Paul McLimans on Monday set July 11 as the arraignment date for Wilfred Laurent Carignan, 72, who faces one class-three felony count of sexual assault on a child position of trust pattern of abuse. Public defender James Conway noted that the alleged offense is a very serious case against Carignan, who worked at the monastery from 1996 to 2001 as a beekeeper and was a monk in training.

The alleged sexual acts did not occur at the monastery; the alleged victim claims they happened at a nearby home in which Carignan resided at the time, as well as during a trip to Crestone, Colo.

Carignan currently is serving separate prison sentences of six and eight years to life in Fremont Correction Facility in Canon City, on two felony convictions of sexual assault of a child out of Delta County.

Under state law, the prosecutor has six months to try him from the date he was detained on the new charge April 6. But Carignan agreed to have the six-month period activate from the time of his arraignment hearing.

Meanwhile, details of the events leading to Carignans most recent arrest are spelled out in a statement of facts written by Bruce Benjamin, juvenile investigator for the Pitkin County Sheriffs Office. The statement, made public Monday, was written Feb. 17 in support of an arrest warrant signed Feb. 22 by District Judge Gail Nicholas.

In the statement, Benjamin recounts how on Sept. 10, as relayed to him by investigator Ron Ryan (now the countys undersheriff), Ryan met with Father Joseph Boyle, along with the monasterys secretary and Tom Smith, the monasterys attorney. Also attending the meeting, held at the monastery, was then-Sheriff Bob Braudis.

The secretary told authorities that on Aug. 31, he found an envelope on a windowsill on the inside of the monastery bookstore. The letter had come from the mother of a boy who allegedly had been molested by Carignan, though it did not mention the suspect by his full name but gave details that revealed his identity.

According to the letter, Bill, the beekeeping monk from about ten years back did have perverted words and acts too with my son. He was hired to tutor him and these school lessons were in a private home near yourselves. My son has not gone into details, but this is odd. Now a young man, [name deleted] does still feel violated. Response, to him, would be helpful and acknowledgment.

Father Boyle, at the meeting, told officials he believed the man to be Carignan.

Benjamin tracked the letter down to Louisiana, where he learned the alleged victim, now 21, lives. He spoke to both the alleged victim and his mother, who recalled that Carignan tutored her son four or five times at a home about 4 miles from the monastery. The mother, not knowing about the relationship at the time, also had taken her son to visit Carignan in Paonia, and allowed the two to take a trip to Crestone.

It was not until a year before she left the note that her son told her about the allegations, according to Benjamins statement.

In November, Benjamin spoke to the alleged victim, who said that Carignan improperly touched him at his Old Snowmass property and on the trip to Crestone.

As part of his investigation, Benjamin also reviewed Carignans criminal cases from the 7th Judicial District where he was convicted in 2008 for molesting two boys in 2003. According to the files, Carignan admitted to investigators in Delta County that he had carried on sex acts with young boys and men.

According to one report obtained by Benjamin, Carignan was in the Monastery for 6 years. He wanted to be celibate with women, so he went to boys. … While in the Monastery, all of his transcendental sex went up. He didnt need sex there. … Bill did not believe what he has done is morally wrong.

Why settle for short suborbital trips to space when you can take a trip around the moon? The best part: It will cost you a mere 150 million dollars! Wow, what a bargain! Space Adventures, the same company which sent citizens to the International Space Station and the only company that has sent private citizens to space, period, is now offering a trip to the moon.

As with past trips from Space Adventures, youll probably undergo some level of training, although its nothing compared to the years of training that astronauts go through. But it looks like you get a nice hotel in the package (I wonder if it comes with a complimentary breakfast).

Then comes the real prize. For your 150 million dollars you will be flying in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft which Space Adventures claims is the greatest spacecraft in the history of mankind. After launch youll meet up with a separately launched unmanned rocket in low Earth orbit which will contain a propulsion system and will help you get all the way to the moon (and hopefully back). On the way to the rocket you might get a chance to rendezvous with the International Space Station, but that depends on a number of other factors.

After meeting up with the low-Earth-orbit rocket, the Soyuz will take you on a moon-shot around the moon and you will be brought within 100 kilometers (around 62 miles) of the moon. In an interview with SPACE.com, Tom Shelley, the president of Space Adventures, said …youre going to get a really close-up view of the moon and that incredible Earthrise as well…There are only 24 people who have seen that.

Unlike Space Adventures one-passenger-at-a-time-trips to the ISS, youll be going in groups of three–two tourists and one Russian mission commander. Seeing how the Apollo 11 and the Apollo 13 missions both had durations between about six days and eight days to go to the moon and back youre bound to get about the same duration in space–even longer if you visit the ISS.

So far Space Adventures claims to have sealed the deal with one customer and they are awaiting the second. Could it be you?

Even Google confessed that Chromebooks wont work for everyone, and definitely not for every business. But the dead-simple management aspect should have a lot of CIOs turning their heads, particularly with this new wave of hardware. The CR-48 was never a speed demon, but Samsung and Acers new offerings should be more than capable of handling Google Spreadsheets and the occasional slide deck. Our take? This new wave of hardware — particularly when you consider the faraway Chromebox — finally puts Chrome OS in a position to thrive, and the new pricing model finally makes it accessible to scaling businesses.

As Google rightly pointed out, you can lease computers now from pretty much any OEM in the industry, but youre on your own when it comes to software management. Or, of course, you can pony up well over $30 per user to hand that off, too.

Are subscriptions the future for Chrome OS?
Ill close with this. I had my doubts about Chrome OS ability to truly grab hold in a market that isnt exactly prepared to rely solely on the cloud, but with Googles new efforts to enable offline support for vital applications — as well as Citrix Receiver for times when desktop apps are needed — my view is changing. Its sort of funny to think that Chrome OS may gain its traction within the enterprise first, but for companies desperate for simplicity in the IT room, todays pricing model instantly makes a ton of sense.

A California mother is suing Chuck E. Cheeses Pizza, claiming that kids who go to there are at risk of developing serious gambling habits, according to media reports.

Debbie Keller, who has 3- and 5-year-old children, claims the facilities games are illegal gambling devices. Shes seeking $5 million in the lawsuit.

Chuck E. Cheese has six Minnesota locations: Blaine, Burnsville, Edina, Maple Grove, Rochester and West St. Paul.

The companys entertainment centers offer pizza and games and focuses on families with small children, according to the companys website.

According to media reports, the companys lawyers have asked that the lawsuit to be thrown out. They contend that the games are legal and that the California Legislature never intended to make the operation of arcades for children a criminal act.

Chuck E. Cheeses attorneys also contend that even if the games were illegal, Keller could not seek damages because she would be an admitted participant in illegal gambling.

Irving, Texas-based Chuck E. Cheeses parent company CEC Entertainment Inc. (NYSE: CEC) has more than 500 entertainment centers in 48 states and six countries, according to the companys website.

Teaming up with Kyle Higgins, Snyders aiming to make good on this concept with Batman: Gates of Gotham. And while it will ultimately have to compete with an already large amount of Bat-books just to hold reader attention, theres a lot to like with this history lesson of Gotham 101.

For me, the best way of reading Gates of Gotham is more of a historical mystery, rather than something that will out-and-out win you over to Gothams plight immediately. Getting invested in Gotham as an entity is already a big leap of faith for a lot of readers, and thats basically aiming for the continuity crowd rather than the uninitiated. But thankfully, outside of a three-page introduction, Ye Olden Gotham makes way for the present day, with Dick Grayson and Tim Drake tearing through the streets after an attack on the three main bridges of the city in other words, the titular Gates of Gotham.

One thing in particular that stood out to me in this book was the dialogue, and in that regard, up-and-coming writer Kyle Higgins is definitely pulling his own weight. Just in terms of hearing the dialogue, it very much evokes that Kevin Conroy tone from the Batman animated series. And something that really interested me about this was that even though its clear that Dick Grayson is underneath the cape and cowl for this book, he definitely sounds like Bruce while on the streets. To be honest, I think only the most anal of readers are going to have a problem with that it may cut down on the differentiation between the Batmen, but the pacing for the speech is so punchy that I certainly wouldnt turn it down.

The real talent that bears watching in this book, however, is Trevor McCarthy. Hes been hacking his way into the industry for more than a decade, but this is his big break and his stylistic gifts are obvious. He has a fluid, animated style thats reminiscent of Rob Haynes and, with more time to perfect his composition, could be every bit as iconic a Bat-artist as Scott McDaniel. Hes also a really striking fit for Guy Major, whos able to take the intricate linework even within Batmans cape and cowl and make it pop, setting blue lines on black cloth. Thats not to say there arent the occasional moments of static theres an opening splash page that isnt particularly effective, and theres a beautiful moment of Batman tying together precariously-perched cars that looks great, but took a couple of reads to figure out what was happening.

With Kyle Higgins and Trevor McCarthy teaming up once more after their introduction of the character Nightrunner, its particularly interesting to see two up-and-coming talents strut their stuff on a character thats as big as Batman. Thats not to say that this book is a perfect read the pacing does occasionally feel a bit jerky, just moving from scene to scene, and ultimately, I think the continuity-based concept is going to make things a bit difficult for new readers, even as it rewards diehard fans with all the cameos and guest stars. But just in terms of sheer execution, there are plenty of gems both obvious and hidden in Batman: Gates of Gotham the question is, will you be willing to take a trip to the city to find out?
